El nuevo proyecto «Oberwolfach se encuentra con IMAGINARY», patrocinado por la Klaus Tschira Stiftung, se ha puesto en marcha. Es un proyecto de tres años de duración (2013 - 2016) con diversos planes de trabajo enfocados a la comunicación de las matemáticas contemporáneas y de la investigación matemática de nuestros días. La idea central de este nuevo proyecto es conectar el Instituto de Investigación Matemática de Oberwolfach, uno de los más importantes institutos de investigación en matemáticas del mundo, e IMAGINARY.
Uno de los planes invita a los matemáticos que desarrollen investigaciones en el Instituto a que sean «proveedores de contenidos», en particular a que escriban las llamadas «Instantáneas de Matemáticas Contemporáneas», es decir, textos sobre la su investigación actual dirigidos a un público amplio.
Otro plan de trabajo se dirige a «Los medios desde Oberwolfach” conectados con las matemáticas de hoy. Se escogerán imágenes, películas, simulaciones y otros programas informáticos y se rediseñarán para su uso en la comunicación general de las matemáticas. También tenemos planes para crear mas piezas para nuestras exposiciones IMAGINARY y también para los museos con los que cooperamos.
Y, por supuesto, la plataforma IMAGINARY se ampliará y se adaptará para albergar estos nuevos materiales y también para invitar a participar a otros institutos de investigación. Se desarrollará un programa de trabajo especial dirigido a crear una red internacional de comunicadores matemáticos y de proveedores de contenidos matemáticos.
El proyecto está diseñado para promover a escala mundial la comprensión y el aprecio de las matemáticas actuales y de la investigación matemática por parte del público en general.
