Smooth and singular algebraic surfaces
Smooth and singular algebraic surfaces computed with Bertini_real, software for numerically computing n-dimensional algebraic curves and surfaces.
The main algorithm is called Numerical Real Cellular Decomposition, and uses homotopy continuation implemented in Bertini to compute points on the algebraic variety, and connections between them. The surface structure naturally emits a triangulation, even for dimensions greater than three, making 3d printing a natural application of the software. These models are largely printed in PLA plastic, ranging from about 50mm to 250mm in size. Support material was printed also in PLA and manually removed.
